22nd October Choosing of the Seven Acts 6 v5-7: This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid hands on them. So the word of God spread. The number of Disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith. Yes there are some names which stand out and we know much more about through the word, but others where they are not mentioned again. We know from (Acts 8 v4), those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they they went. For the 1st part of this it reminds me of all the wonderful people who have become Missionaries living and working throughout the world,. I have personal knowledge of a few, one couple who showed The Lords Love and word to disabled children and built an orphanage, still going strong although her husband sadly died, she continues to speak in Churches in Uganda and here. They were both retired and then the Lord made that calling on their life. Unless you knew the couple or their work, you would not know they existed, a bit like some of the chosen 7. The second part Acts 8, was because the persecuted church was scattered. Wow, how that speaks of all that is happening in many parts of the earth today. Those in Open Doors which asks us to pray for areas and people who today are suffering. There is another part to this as well. Today we hear of Church Planting, where they open a place of worship in an area the Lord is calling His faithful to, love, share and care all that Jesus would. For this I would like us all to keep in prayer, all those whom God knows but we may not know (and the ones we do), whether it be Missionaries, the Persecuted or Leaders of new churches. Thank you Lord for all Your faithful children, please protect them all, bless and encourage the work they do, pour Your healing where it is needed, also Your Grace and Mercy into their lives as they continue to share Your word and Love to others, all working to Your Glory God, please send our love to them all as well, in Jesus Name, Amen!
