22nd sunday in ordinary time year C Humility is the word and key to getting into the kingdom of God. God invites us to do this and He Himself begins this. In Gen 1:27 after creation, He gave man authority over all he had created. This entails complete handover. only a humble person can do this. In the second account of creation, God also gave man the authority to name all He had created. whatever name man called anything became its name. God had suggested the name of a woman as Helper but when He brought her to man, the man called her woman and woman indeed became the female name. The initiative of Christ reedeming us while we were disobedient is the climax of humility. No wonder all the early prophetic figures were very humble; from Moses, Elijah, Jeremiah, John the Baptist and the like. we find Mary in the new Testament too and Jesus would round this process through his ministry of service. Todays first reading and Gospel call us to complete humility, service to God and neigbour. Look at how the proud figures in scripture ended. As leaders and followers, we must be humble, for scriptures says "anyone who humbles himself will be exalted and anyone who eexalts himself will be humbled." Lord help me to be humble.
