23 August 2013 Community Announcement Warning to residents Residents are urged to be aware of a scam involving a member of the public approaching residents while impersonating a council officer on the Sunshine Coast. A male person in his mid-40s, wearing a shirt displaying the Sunshine Coast Council logo, is reported to have approached a Nambour resident seeking payment for the spraying of street numbering in a suburban street. Council has been advised that the man approached the front door of a house, told the tenant that he was from council and required a payment of $20 for the street numbering in front of the house. According to the report to council, the entire length Kentia St in Highworth has had numbers sprayed on the gutter - black spray, white numbers – and other residents in the street have been approached by this impersonator. Council stresses that it does not carry street numbering on guttering in this manner nor does it door-knock for fees. Any resident who is, or has been, approached by a personal claiming to be a council officer under these circumstances should contact police and council immediately.
