23 YEARS AGO TODAY - HURRICANE BOB PUMMELED SOUTHCOAST. Hurricane Bob was the last full-force hurricane to directly impact South Coast up to this day. The hurricane barrier got its first big test since it was built 25 years earlier. Mattapoisett was ground zero. For weeks sailboats in Padanaram had to be plucked off the beaches by helicopters. A 300lb cable line tech was almost killed by a little bee in Acushnet. A man in Wareham was electrocuted by his own generator and died.
