GREGORY UNIVERSITY, UTURU, ABIA STATE (World and NUC ranking not yet available) The ‘GREGORY UNIVERSITY’ was licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria on 28th February 2012 and is named after Pope St. Gregory I (540 – 604 AD). Better known as Gregory the Great, he was Pope from 3 September 590 until his death. He was a renowned and distinguished educationist and a pious and learned man of God who had the single opportunity of being made the Doctor of the Catholic Church. Pope St. Gregory I worked hard to alleviate the suffering of the people. He employed writings and other actions, including education of his people, to protect them against the lawlessness of civil power.It is the life, hard work, dedication, commitment, and achievements of Pope St. Gregory I that have inspired the Proprietor to name the university after him. The goal is for Gregory University to epitomise the accomplishments of Pope St. Gregory I and the work of Gregory Iyke Foundation in Nigeria as well as to inculcate in every graduate of the university the zeal, enthusiasm and commitment exhibited by Pope St. Gregory I. The achievement of this goal shall translate and mirror in the rapid socio-economic development of the graduates of the university, of Nigeria and of mankind. The Proprietor of the Gregory University is Gregory Iyke Foundation. Gregory Iyke Foundation is a humanitarian organisation established in 1991 and incorporated on 14 June 2007 (RC No. CAC/IT/NO 24072) by Chief Gregory Ibe, Ph. D. and associates with the mission to bring hope to the hopeless and to reduce poverty in the entire Nigerian nation, particularly through education. The corporate office of Gregory Ike Foundation is located at No. 4A, Asa Street, Off Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja. The activities of Gregory Iyke Foundation include: scholarship awards; provision of communal infrastructure; sponsorship of communal sporting initiatives; provision of facilities to schools and hospitals; and sundry donations aimed at encouraging education. The aims and objectives of the Gregory Iyke Foundation as articulated in its constitution are to: i. give material, financial and moral assistance to the needy, less privileged and the abandoned; ii. contribute to the empowerment of individuals who hitherto lack the opportunity to be better persons in the society; iii. help in educational development, good work ethics and encourage personal development and skills acquisition; and iv. support the old, the poor, the widows and orphans with financial and medical aids. The mission of Gregory University is ‘to produce God-fearing, ethically sound, highly skilled global leaders who shall be catalysts for the technological and socio-economic advancement of themselves and their environment’. The university intends to be the engine house for the production of the required expert manpower needed to drive the Nigerian economy by tapping the vast potentials of the country. The University shall instil in all its graduates the necessary skills and competences as well as the zeal and inspiration they shall need to be champions and to be successful in their chosen fields. Vision The vision of Gregory University is ‘to be a world renowned university noted for the high quality of its academic and research programmes as well as its professional, practical and entrepreneurial capacity development’. The university intends to produce graduates with sufficient theoretical and practical skills that shall enable them face the challenges of employment with attributes of innovation, creativity and self-reliance. The Proprietor of the university foresees a practical-oriented problem-solving institution of high standard, the main focus of which shall be science and technology for service to and partnership with Government, industries, urban development and meeting social needs. School fees which include a non refundable acceptance fee of N50,000 range from N420,000-N575,000 depending on the course of choice.
