25 years ago, I went on a date to the Ligonier Highland Games with this guy I barely knew. (He asked me out via email.) He was high energy, a little chatty, and seemed refreshingly uncaring of whether I liked him or not. We petted border collies, watched large men in kilts throw logs and other heavy stuff around, talked about Life, the Universe, and Everything, and sat under a fall sky surrounded by pipe bands and geese flying overhead. At lunch time, I would have dumped him if I could have thought of a way. By sunset, I thought he might be intriguing. On September 21 two years later, I married him. I have never looked back, and I am blessed beyond measure.
