25th August 2014. Evening Shift Territory Superintendent (acting Supt.) Garry Smith:- Returning from a great weekend off in Darwin with the sensational weather and activities available to us, (how cold is it interstate??) I find myself recharged and ready to get back into what we do best and that’s keeping people safe. Having said that, whilst enjoying a cruise around on my Fatboy (yes it is a motorcycle) I saw a couple of matters I thought might need reinforcing and reminding you folk about. The 1st one being the use of round-a-bouts as I had a close call on one and suggest I was in the right. I have added a link on the usage of these intersection’s with a large circular island at its centre for your perusal. (Doesn’t hurt to re-hash over road rules every now and again) transport.nt.gov.au/safety/road-safety/our-safer-road-users/driver/roundabouts The 2nd happened, funnily enough but not funny, around breakfast time, even though it was warm and “toasty” out, I thought I came upon either a cold, very tired or possibly intoxicated driver. I was astounded and “Cerealiously” could not believe my eyes when I saw the driver had a bowl of cereal perched upon the centre of the steering wheel and eating spoonful’s of breaky. Breakfast bowls are what Mum used to put on my head and give me the old bowl style haircut as a lot of you probably remember and suffered the same fate. I have added a link on this usage for your perusal. DON’T DO IT – YOU DO NOT HAVE EFFECTIVE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. Road Safety is very important and it’s up to all of us to be aware of our actions. (What do you call two rows of vegetables? – a dual cabbage way ~ boom boom)
