[26/07/2014] Bradford Park Avenue 2 – 3 Sheffield United U21 (Pre-Season Friendly) ACADEMY, BLADES NEWS Zoom Out Zoom In By Martin Fox 21581:04 pm July 28, 2014 The Sheffield United Pre-Season schedule continued on a stiflingly warm Saturday afternoon, as Chris Morgan took an U21 side to the Horsfall Stadium, home of Bradford Park Avenue. With the sun beating down, the Blades got the game under-way, MJ Kedman having to remain alert in the opening exchanges to block an early cross as the hosts tried to carve out the first opportunity of the game. Down the other end, Otis Khan forced the first corner of the game with a run at the full back, the cross from the resulting corner was just too high for Evans. After an initial save from George Willis, the home side took the lead with Nathan Hotte picking up the ball and dispatching past the keeper with a left-footed effort into the bottom corner. Avenue looked to extend their lead as first a shot from distance fizzed just wide, before a great looking cross into the back post, which thankfully no-one attacked. Joel Coustrain beat his man down the right hand side, before firing a shot towards the bottom corner, Maxted was down well to tip around the post. CJ Hamilton saw his header clear the bar and then Daniel Cockerline was next to try his luck, as he turned and shot, only to see his effort deflected wide. Ben Whiteman took a touch, before shooting just off target from outside the box. Bradford Park Avenue were further in front shortly after, with Chilaka sent in behind by a through ball from James. The striker looked suspiciously like he was in an offside position, but the flag stayed down and he slotted home past the helpless Willis. In almost the next passage of play, the young Blades were presented with an opportunity to reduce the deficit, the referee pointing the the spot after Evans went to ground in the area. Otis Khan stepped up to take the penalty and saw his right footed effort saved by the keeper. Khan showed composure to tap in the rebound as the ball bounced back towards the spot. After the break, first Khan put a free kick over the bar, before Coustrain had an effort from 18-yards collected routinely by the keeper. Willis was called into action, pulling off a good save to keep out Qualter before somehow the Blades managed to block on the line twice from the resulting scramble. Coustrain ran down the left, but was stopped by the goalkeeper as he looked to bear down on goal. The impressive and energetic Coustrain was involved again shortly after, doing well down the left before finding Khan, who exchanged passes with Cockerline before placing into the bottom right-hand corner the level the scores. Kedman kept it that way with a fantastic clearance off the line after Willis was beaten, before Coustrain again tested the home keeper, forcing another good save to keep his powerful shot out of the bottom corner. Morgan shuffled the pack, with Dallas, Wright, Hinchcliffe and Cheeseman coming on replacing Paling, Hamilton, Coustrain and Cockerline. It was one of the substitutes who completed the comeback, Cheeseman showing persistance to finally get the ball over the line after his initial header was saved and the first rebound cleared off the line.
