26 June 2014, 11:24 Oleksandr Turchynov: There should be no fences and obstacles between the authority and people ( Press Service ) The way to Ukraine’s revival lies in faith and hard work. Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov stressed this in the interview to “Novoe vremia” (“New Time”) magazine. Having analyzed the situation in the country for the past six months, Oleksandr Turchynov noted that “the recipe for calming down Donbas would be suitable for all the regions of Ukraine – this is faith.” “God leads us to victory, to the light, to the development of a strong and democratic Ukraine,” he said. “If people start truly believing in God, they will have no wish to kill. There will be no wish to plunder and seek for the guilty of their problems,” added the Chairman. Chairman of the Parliament is convinced that the way to Ukraine’s revival “lies in faith and hard work” and this is “the only efficient recipe for the development of all great countries.” Commenting on his performance of the duties of the Head of the state, Oleksandr Turchynov claimed: “I did everything I could. I did not hide behind somebody’s back. I took the burden of hard decisions in complicated situations. I did not try to avoid responsibility.” “Maybe someone could do it better. I raise no objection. The only thing I want is to live in a country where people are not afraid of authority, of intervention, of terrorists and of criminals but they take enjoyment in simply living and working honestly in their native and beloved Ukraine,” said Oleksandr Turchynov. Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada noted also that one of the first steps he has taken as the Acting President was the instruction to remove all fences around the Parliament and the Presidential Administration; the prohibition to block off traffic during the pass by of officials; and the prohibition to use light bars and corteges. “There should be no fences and obstacles between the authority and people,” he added. “In order to recharge the budget, I have also entrusted to sell extra property, not connected with the activity of the President – plants, summer residences and palaces. I have abolished inefficient decrees that established unnecessary institutions and structures,” said Oleksandr Turchynov. “During the latter days, I have entrusted to cleanse all the unnecessary law-making sector like Augean stables in order to make it easier for the President Petro Poroshenko to work,” he added. Commenting on the Russian aggression and the Crimean occupation, Oleksandr Turchynov expressed an idea that “Russian analysts were convinced that under such conditions the authority in Ukraine will not manage to hold out even one week – there was no army, the law-enforcement agencies were demoralized and economy was totally destroyed.” “The Kremlin deemed that our country is about to be engulfed by the turmoil and, on the background of devastation and chaos, the Russian troops will face no resistance as entering Kyiv,” he said. “Having realized that it was too late for the direct intervention and Ukraine can protect itself, Moscow has changed the strategy. An attempt was made to destabilize the situation in the south-east of the country,” noted Oleksandr Turchynov. “There was a need to urgently restore the law-enforcement agencies and regional authorities in the country,” he added. “You ask me who Putin is? Putin is Russia’s tragedy. I would not like to be a prophet, however, the today’s Kremlin owner confidently leads the Russian Federation to a sad and terrible end,” said Oleksandr Turchynov. *** rada.gov.ua/en
