27 January 1977: Patrick L. McNulty, 30-year-old Catholic, married with 2 children and a Detective-Constable with the RUC was working in the Special Branch when he was shot by the IRA. Det Const. McNulty had left his car in for servicing at a garage in Strand Road, Londonderry. Det Const. McNulty was wearing civilian clothes at the time of the attack and the gunman was waiting in his car at the entrance to the repair section of the garage. Det Const McNulty was originally from Holywood and was serving in Londonderrys Waterside area. He had been in the RUC since 1965 and had 2 sons aged 5 and 3-years-old. A requiem mass was held at St. Columbas Waterside Chapel. Dr Edward Daly, the Bishop of (London) Derry said that: we all must take a share in the murder of Patrick McNulty. There is no such thing as a legitimate target. LEST WE FORGET!
