27 June 2013, Thursday, Week 9 – Day 60 of our Trip Around Australia Blog - mrlocks.tumblr https://facebook/mark.seberry?ref=tn_tnmn “1CADFAY”, (1 cache a day for a year). Lake Argyle WA – Timber Creek NT It was now time to move on again, so after packing up the caravan we were on the road by 9am and after a short drive from Argyle to the Victoria Hwy it was only another 7ks to the WA/NT border. We stopped at the border in order to get a photo of the sign and while we were here we wandered across the road to look for a cache, “Welcome to Kununurra and The Kimberley, GC1NE4H”, however in our case it was ‘Goodbye to Kununurra and The Kimberley’, LOL. It was a quick ‘find and sign’ then back to the car to continue on the journey. As we returned to the car we passed a long line of caravaners waiting to pass through WA Quarantine. Once across the border the landscape became much flatter as we left the amazing rocky hills and gorges of the Kimberley behind. The flat floodplains we were now crossing had many creek crossings which at this time of the year were dry. We passed by the ‘Keep River National Park’, there were a couple of caches in here including GCA, but we were not sure if we would be able to get the caravan in here so we continued on. We continued on to ‘Duncan Road’, this is the junction for a gravel road to ‘Halls Creek’ and there is also a ugly monument to ‘The Beef Road’ which, sadly, has been badly vandalized and neglected. We found the cache here “Fishing On The Duncan, GC4DWZ8”, another quick ‘find & sign’, then carried on again. We came to the area of ‘Timber Creek’ to find a roadhouse and a choice of caravan parks, we had been told to choose the ‘WIRIB Tourist Village Timber Creek’. We managed to get one of the last powered sites still available, it was a bit lumpy and on an awkward slope so getting the caravan level proved to be a challenge and we never did get it right, lol. After we had set up as best we could we had some lunch and then wandered over to the pool to cool off as it was quite humid now. Later in the afternoon we went off to find some caches, we drove west about 10ks out of town to Gregory’s Tree. Check out some photos here everytrail/view_trip.php?trip_id=2195014&share=1 The first cache “Augustus, GC1KV5M”, was a quick find by Chloe but took a combined effort to reach with Charlie, another quick find & Sign. We then drove out to where the tree was located to find the cache, we parked the car and walk the last few hundred metres to “Aah, Nuts, GC48B1B”, another quick ‘find & sign’. We carried on a bit further to then view the tree, as we looked the sun was setting through the trees in a spectacular blazing red ball. We set off back to the caravan park, we stopped along the way to look at ‘Brayshaw Bridge’, there was a family here stopped in the car park with their little caravan and Jacki chatted with them while we searched for the cache, “Bridge to Nowhere, GC48JP2”, a quick find by Chloe. It was now time to return to the caravan for dinners and to settle in for the night.
