27– Birth of the Lord of Right Living -The Lamb of God John 1:29-34 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ 31 I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.” 32 And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. 33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.” In today’s Scripture the forerunner meets the Promised One. How did the forerunner recognize the Anointed One? He knew by using the criteria he was given by the One (God) Who called him. The Holy Spirit in the form of a dove descended and remained on Jesus. Not only did the Holy Spirit come on Him, the Holy Spirit remained on Him. This is significant because, until now, the Holy Spirit would come on a person (i.e., prophet), but would not remain. He could not remain because the sin issue had not been resolved. The blood of the animals only provided a temporary covering for sin. The Holy Spirit remaining on Jesus indicated that there was no sin issue with this man called Jesus. He has the Holy Spirit without measure (John 3:34). Remember! His Daddy is the Holy Spirit! We have many preachers and teachers in our world. Many are well educated by religious institutions and some filled and led by the Holy Spirit. Being educated and filled with the Holy Spirit are neither mutually exclusive nor mutually inclusive. Education is great, being filled and led by the Holy Spirit is mandatory when it comes to our spiritual life and doing God’s business God’s way. May we have discernment to recognize and internally acknowledge when the Holy Spirit is in operation—not only in others, but also in ourselves. When John the Baptist saw the Holy Spirit descend and remain on Jesus, He declared, “Behold the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world.” When Isaac asked Abraham about a lamb for their sacrifice (Genesis 22:1-14), Abraham told Isaac that God would provide for Himself a Lamb. God was compelled by love to provide the Lamb to take away the sin in of the world. All of the sacrifices of men combined could only provide a temporary covering for sin. In contrast, Lamb of God takes away the sin of the world. Hebrews 10:11-18 details the facts of the sacrifice of the Lamb of God. Hebrews 10:11-18 And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man (Jesus), after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. Oh Lord my God, give me eyes to see the Lamb of God and His Holy Spirit and ears to hear Him and a heart quick to obey Him! Lord! Let it be.
