28-06-2014 Gospel of the Day Luke, 2 41. Every year his parents used to go to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover. 42. When he was twelve years old, they went up for the feast as usual. 43. When the days of the feast were over and they set off home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem without his parents knowing it. 44. They assumed he was somewhere in the party, and it was only after a days journey that they went to look for him among their relations and acquaintances. 45. When they failed to find him they went back to Jerusalem looking for him everywhere. 46. It happened that, three days later, they found him in the Temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them, and asking them questions; 47. and all those who heard him were astounded at his intelligence and his replies. 48. They were overcome when they saw him, and his mother said to him, My child, why have you done this to us? See how worried your father and I have been, looking for you. 49. He replied, Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Fathers house? 50. But they did not understand what he meant. 51. He went down with them then and came to Nazareth and lived under their authority. His mother stored up all these things in her heart. Isaiah, 61 9. Their race will be famous throughout the nations and their offspring throughout the peoples. All who see them will admit that they are a race whom Yahweh has blessed. 10. I exult for joy in Yahweh, my soul rejoices in my God, for he has clothed me in garments of salvation, he has wrapped me in a cloak of saving justice, like a bridegroom wearing his garland, like a bride adorned in her jewels. 11. For as the earth sends up its shoots and a garden makes seeds sprout, so Lord Yahweh makes saving justice and praise spring up in the sight of all nations. 1 Samuel, 2 1. Hannah then prayed as follows: My heart exults in Yahweh, in my God is my strength lifted up, my mouth derides my foes, for I rejoice in your deliverance. 2. There is no Holy One like Yahweh, (indeed, there is none but you) no Rock like our God. 3. Do not keep talking so proudly, let no arrogance come from your mouth, for Yahweh is a wise God, his to weigh up deeds. 4. The bow of the mighty has been broken but those who were tottering are now braced with strength. 5. The full fed are hiring themselves out for bread but the hungry need labour no more; the barren woman bears sevenfold but the mother of many is left desolate. 6. Yahweh gives death and life, brings down to Sheol and draws up; 7. Yahweh makes poor and rich, he humbles and also exalts. 8. He raises the poor from the dust, he lifts the needy from the dunghill to give them a place with princes, to assign them a seat of honour; for to Yahweh belong the pillars of the earth, on these he has poised the world. 9. He safeguards the steps of his faithful but the wicked vanish in darkness (for human strength can win no victories). 10. Yahweh, his enemies are shattered, the Most High thunders in the heavens. Yahweh judges the ends of the earth, he endows his king with power, he raises up the strength of his Anointed. Commentary on the Gospel In Lukes Gospel the theological sense prevails on the historical meaning of the text. Situating Jesus in Jerusalem, in its infancy, and then setting the gift of the Holy Spirit also in this city, Lucas suggests that new communities are continuity of ancient Israel. Jesus, at the age of initiation to the observances Judaism, shows autonomy both in relation to the family, his parents, as the temple system. Its mission is to be what is his Father was the Passover feast which was in memory of the exodus. Likewise, in an Easter party will be killed Jesus. The exodus of Jesus is the output of a Jewish institution to communicate the universal love of God to the world with the gift of eternal life. prayer Spirit that guides our life to God, help me grow each day in wisdom and grace, looking like Jesus, want to adjust my life to the Father
