28-08-2014 – Gospel of the Day Matthew 24 42. Therefore, be vigilant. For you do not know at what hour your Lord will return. 43. But know this: if only the father of the family knew at what hour the thief would arrive, he would certainly keep vigil and not permit his house to be broken into. 44. For this reason, you also must be prepared, for you do not know at what hour the Son of man will return. 45. Consider this: who is a faithful and prudent servant, who has been appointed by his lord over his family, to give them their portion in due time? 46. Blessed is that servant, if, when his lord has arrived, he shall find him doing so. 47. Amen I say to you, he shall appoint him over all of his goods. 48. But if that evil servant has said in his heart, ‘My lord has been delayed in returning,’ 49. and so, he begins to strike his fellow servants, and he eats and drinks with the inebriated: 50. then the lord of that servant will arrive on a day that he does not expect, and at an hour that he does not know. 51. And he shall separate him, and he shall place his portion with the hypocrites, where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Commentary on the Gospel FAITHFUL SERVANT The Christian life is all her preparation for the final encounter with the Lord. The day and time of this meeting do not know. Therefore, Jesus insisted that his disciples to remain ever vigilant. The wait should keep them active, because every minute of existence could be an opportunity to prepare better. The encounter with the Lord prepares through the practice of love and justice, not simply through certain acts of piety performed mechanically. Whom the Lord find loving others and fighting for justice, will be invited to participate in the joy of his kingdom. Certain disciples, thinking that the Lord be long to come back and therefore would have enough time to prepare, were not aware, slipping into a life of wickedness. Given the uncertainty of the time, it is unwise to do so. When you least expect it, will be called to account for its existence, taking the punishment of the wicked servants. The true disciple does not neglect. Rather, it transforms every circumstance of life the opportunity to express their desire to be accepted by the Lord. And I will bless your name, in this time and forever and ever. 2. Throughout every single day, I will bless you. And I will praise your name, in this time and forever and ever. 3. The Lord is great and exceedingly praiseworthy. And there is no end to his greatness. 4. Generation after generation will praise your works, and they will declare your power. 5. They will tell of the magnificent glory of your sanctity. And they will discourse of your wonders. 6. And they will talk about the virtue of your terrible acts. And they will describe your greatness. 7. They will shout about the memory of your abundant sweetness. And they will exult in your justice. 8. The Lord is compassionate and merciful, patient and full of mercy. 9. The Lord is sweet to all things, and his compassion is upon all his works. 10. O Lord, may all your works confess to you, and let your holy ones bless you. 11. They will speak of the glory of your kingdom, and they will declare your power, 12. so as to make known to the sons of men your power and the glory of your magnificent kingdom. 13. Your kingdom is a kingdom for all ages, and your dominion is with all, from generation to generation. The Lord is faithful in all his words and holy in all his works. 14. The Lord lifts up all who have fallen down, and he sets upright all who have been thrown down. 15. O Lord, all eyes hope in you, and you provide their food in due time. 16. You open your hand, and you fill every kind of animal with a blessing. 17. The Lord is just in all his ways and holy in all his works. 18. The Lord is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth. 19. He will do the will of those who fear him, and he will heed their supplication and accomplish their salvation. 20. The Lord watches over all who love him. And he will destroy all sinners. 21. My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord, and may all flesh bless his holy name, in this time and forever and ever.
