29/12/14. بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته Lesson on surma (Antimony) (Asmad) (اثمد) Names: 1. In Hadis it is called as Asmad. (اثمد) 2. In English it is called as Antimony. 3. In Urdu & in Hindi it is called as Surma. Introduction: Antimony is a metalloid, the symbol is Sb, it is found in nature in free form, it is available in sulfide, oxide or ox sulfide form. It is a brittle metal, which breaks easily. It is shinny with white silvery colour (when it is in pure form) It is grayish colour, when in compound form. RasoolAllah ﷺs guidance about it: 1. Hazrat Abdullah Bin Abbas رضي الله عنه says that Rasool Allah ﷺ said the best surma you have is Asmad ( (اثمد (Antimony) it makes the vision (البصر) clear & makes the hair grow : Ibn Majah, Trimizi, Al-Haakim, Al-Tabrani, Musnad Ahmed. The above is also narrated by Salem Bin Abdullah رضي الله عنه in Trimizi, Al-Haakim etc. 2. Hazrat Baridah رضي الله عنه says that Nabiﷺ said that 3 things increase the vision (البصر) 1. Asmad (surma) (اثمد) 2. To see greenery (الخصرة) (vegetables) 3. To see a beautiful face (وجه حسن) : Abu Al-Hasan. 3. Hazrat Abdul Rehman Bin Nauman Bin Ma’bad Zen رضي الله عنه narrated that Rasool Allah ﷺ ordered to apply Asmad-marooh . (اثمد المروح)at night while sleeping: Abu Dawood. Asmad-Marooh. (اثمد المروح)is a Surma in which Musk (kasturi) is mixed. 4. Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه says that Nabiﷺ had a pot of Asmad (اثمد) (Surma) from which Nabiﷺ use to apply in both eyes, three times. (ثلاث) each in both eyes : Ibn Majah. 5. It is mentioned in Trimizi that Rasool Allah ﷺ use to apply Asmad (اثمد) (surma) 3 times in right eye, in this way that Nabiﷺ use to start with right eye & use to end with right eye. (Means use to apply first in right eye than left eye than again right eye than left eye than again in right eye. By this way 3 times in right & 2 times in left eye) 6. It is mentioned in Abu Dawood that apply Asmad (اثمد) (surma) 3 times in right eye & 2 times in left eye (one by one right than left) 7. According to Imam Ahmed Bin Habbal (r) Asmad (اثمد)f should be applied 3 times in each eye, means first 3 times in right & 3 times in left eye. Dr. Shakeel Shamsi B.A.M.S, M.D, PhD.
