29th Annual ABATE of PA Leadership & Legislative Seminar - January 24-25, 2014 Last call - the 29th Annual ABATE of PA Leadership and Legislative Seminar will be blasting off in just a little more than two weeks on January 24-25, 2014. The Holiday Inn is presently sold out, but continue to check if you want a room there. Theres a possibility that some more rooms will become available. First come first served. Rooms are still available at the neighboring hotel. The agenda is packed with training and motivational segments. Mike Myers from ABATE of Illinois will be showcasing his Ride Smart segment that was recently part of the Meeting of the Minds. He will present it on Friday afternoon during the general session. Our special guest is Maggie McNally the new Chairman of the Board of the American Motorcyclist Association. She will be speaking on Friday afternoon and also be part of the Friday evening panel discussion and on Saturday will be hosting a workshop, Women in Motorcycling. She will be assisted by Marie Esselstein of the AMA and longtime ABATE activist Linda Smegal from Mercer County. The Friday evening Panel Discussion has twelve panelists from PennDOT, PA State Police, AMA, and the PA Legislature, hosted by our lobbyist Charles who always seems to know how to ask the important questions. The panel discussion will be followed by a reception and fundraiser for BikePAC with live music and a special guest. Make plans now to attend it. Cost is $10, and there will be plenty of food. A new workshop this year is the History of ABATE of PA hosted by Harper Shoap III and Charles Umbenhauer. Learn things you never knew and no one else would tell you. Many more workshops covering everything from motorcycle insurance to internet marketing will be available, along with leadership and legislative updates. The banquet and award presentations should be exciting, and some of the auction items are really top shelf this year. Remember we take cash, credit cards or your first born for these auction items. Seriously, this is where BikePAC makes its money to support biker friendly candidates and legislators in 2014,. If you have any auction items bring them with you to the seminar and give them to Barb Smith in the auction room. Some of the Auction Items include: - Stainless Steel Gas Grill - Stanley Five Drawer Mechanics Tool Set with 85 piece socket set - Lincoln Mig Welder & Accessories - Signed Sports Autograph Items - Much, much more! And one last thing - we are still lagging behind in sponsorships this year. Cant explain why but if we dont at least break even on the seminar the 30th could be in jeopardy or wind up being held in a large tent somewhere. If it is as cold where you are as it is here tonight I would hope you would rule out the tent idea. Is your chapter a sponsor yet? Find out if they havent sent a donation in yet, and get on it. Feel like you want to do more? Become a sponsor yourself. We have $50 and $100 individual donations available. We need everyones help now. We are about $4000 short. So if you have not bought your seminar ticket yet, go online and buy them or send check or money order in today. $75 gets you everything. Seminar is January 24 & 25. See you at the Holiday Inn, Grantville. Seminar Info: abatepa.org/Events/LL_Seminar.html Steve Zurl State Coordinator
