2nd August 2013 AAP Maharashtra Press Release Ghar Ka Haq Anjali Damani & AAP volunteers roughed up, shoved and hit by Mumbai Police for trying to file an FIR In a shocking case of totally uncalled for brutality Senior Police Inspector Arun Jadhav of Goregaon West POlice Station shoved Anjali Damania, and pushed and slapped other volunteers. Anjali Damania and AAP volunteers had gone to Goregaon Police Station to file an FIR against MHADA, the construction companies, the Housing Minister and the Chief Minister for failing to resolve the issue of transit residents and forcing them to stay in dilapidated structures and putting their lives at risk. This is being done in the light of the fact that the a slab in Siddarth Nagar collapsed last night and the whole building is on the verge of collapse putting the lives of more than 100 residents at risk. PI Ganesh Kolekar stopped the 60 odd complainants at the gate of the police station. We explained that we wished to file a complaint. However he refused to let us in. Then SPI Arun Jadhav came and announced that all these should be shoved into detetnion. He started shoving the people, and slapped volunteer and kicked a volunteer for recording the incident. He then attempted to slap other volunteers. Mayank Jain stopped him and said the police cannot use such violence on citizens and SPI Jadhav slapped Mayank Jain. We have this arrogance of Mumbai Police that compares with the atrocious behavior of Delhi Police on video. The links are: youtu.be/K4gtQsmcuT8 youtu.be/uLR9LRsmXpU A lady constable then caught Anjali by the neck and pushed her inside the police station. They declared that they will detain all of them. We had a conversation with DCP Dr Mahesh Patil (9923004111) and his attitude was no different. He made a false allegation that we were leading a morcha. Moreover, he kept arguing that these were illegal occupants - the MHADA Chairman has committed in writing that these residents will be given their rights and yet the DCP seems to have his own contrary view. Mumbai’s sad truth is that police is mere hand maiden of builders. It even goes against high court orders and provides protection to demolitions in the rains. Aam Aadmi condemns this Jungle Raj and we will file a complaint against the police. We are shocked by the violence and will intensify our protests on this issue.
