3 of 5 Devotional--"Capacity, Student Leadership": Mark 10:42-44 Leadership isn’t about bossing people around and telling people what to do. Leadership is about stepping into a place that you are passionate about and sharing that vision with others. True leaders care about the people they’re leading and are concerned about their well-being. Great leaders will go through great lengths for the sake of their people. Titus 1:5-9 Living out the calling God placed in your life isn’t just about doing stuff. It’s also about living a certain way. If you’re going to be a leader, people will be watching the way you live your life. Don’t just be an example by the things you do, be an example by the way you live. That will have a greater impact than you know. This passage lists what makes up a leader. Focus on that list. How well does it describe you? What things on that list do you need to work on? When you get those down, you’ll be in good standing with others. So Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. (Mark 10:42-44 NLT) I left you on the island of Crete so you could complete our work there and appoint elders in each town as I instructed you. An elder must live a blameless life. He must be faithful to his wife, and his children must be believers who don’t have a reputation for being wild or rebellious. An elder is a manager of God’s household, so he must live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker, violent, or dishonest with money. Rather, he must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must love what is good. He must live wisely and be just. He must live a devout and disciplined life. He must have a strong belief in the trustworthy message he was taught; then he will be able to encourage others with wholesome teaching and show those who oppose it where they are wrong. (Titus 1:5-9 NLT)
