3 point PSA to scooter and motorcycle riding friends in Taiwan. We see people crash around us most weeks. You probably do too. Smashed faces and blood on the road are a common sight. Knowing it was the other guys fault doesnt put your teeth or brains back into your head (or life back into your body). Protecting yourself is your responsibility. Tonight, we swerved around helmets and other debri flying from a two scooter crash right in front of us. This brings me to my 3 points. 1. Buy a high quality FULL-FACE helmet which fits snug (tight) on your head. Just a few thousand NTD get you a good one at fc-moto.de or some local helmet shops. Your cheeks should be squashed a little so you look like a chipmunk. USA DOT compliance is not enough; check helmet crash test ratings here: sharp.direct.gov.uk/. Some of the 5 star rated ones are actually the cheapest, particularly when you buy online. Measure your head correctly. Get the right size. Research your intended purchase. Be a smart buyer. Your life depends on it. 2. Do not EVER remove the MIRRORS from your scooter/bike. USE THEM. The crash we saw tonight would have been avoided if mirrors had been used. 3. Do your helmet up tightly under your chin. This applies to everyone, even police. Extra points: 1. Dont comment every time you see someone wearing a proper motorcycle helmet. It gets REALLY annoying. We know it looks too big to you. In fact, yours is too small; it will fall off and it doesnt cover your head. 2. Dont mock the slightly squashed face look people get when wearing a proper helmet. It is better than the massively smashed face look people risk getting without one. 3. If a helmet doesnt provide any safety benefits, its not a helmet. Its a hat. 要是安全帽沒安全，它只是帽子。Dont be a fool. Even though your hat is comfortable and breezy in summer, being breezy is not the main purpose of a helmet.
