30.09. After a lovely stay with Laura and Tiziano in La Spezia we caught the train and went up the Cinque Terres which was completely unplanned but the kids wanted to relax. So we hit the beach. We had to be back in La Spezia by 3 then we did the tourist thing in Pisa. It was hilarious watching all the people doing the Leaning Tower of Pisa photo. Then took off towards Modena to our next B n b about 10 k out of Modena. Thank goodness for the gps again which made for an easy and quick drive we still had to ask a lovely countryside neighbour who spoke no English for directions to find our final destination. He got in his car and told us to follow him. On arrival an Englishnman, John greeted us. He had arrived 4,days earlier and intended to stay for one night and was still there now helping our host Enrico. The place was fascinating. It had cost us a pittance on air B n. B only $30 so I thought they may have been a mistake but no. We met Enrico who arrived on his bike from somewhere. He was lovely. He explained that he was not in it to make a profit and liked the concept of giving without the expectation of receiving anything in return. All the neighbours around the countryside would give their excess food supplies away. Eggs, tomatoes, vinegar, cakes etc. It was a lovely experience. We had a simple but lovely dinner with him and also breakfast the next day, for no extra cost! Luckily I had a feeling for this possibility and left all our food supplies with him including the 1 and a half litre bottle of vodka the boys had bought in Montpellier and didnt drink. Perfect.
