30 days of thanks, day 22. I missed posting this yesterday so youre gonna get two today. Yesterday I was thankful for government. Yeah I know what youre thinking. But no. Im not thankful for this sorry mess and lame excuse we have for a government now. Im thankful that there is government. At all levels. Because without it we would have chaos. We dont realize just how much the government provides for us when it comes to the stability we have in our lives every day. It may seem and in many cases it actually is intrusive, but on some level we need that. Yes we do. We need a consistent road system that is properly maintained. Without our government we wouldnt have it. And not only that but it is for he most part standardized. You can go anywhere in this country and stop signs are the same, stop lights work the same way, and it brings a certain order to our lives. And that is but one example. Having standard money to buy and sell goods and services, consistent and reliable electricity, clean water, even the gasoline we put in our cars. There are so many areas that we have come to just assume will be there and most of those are due to the involvement of government. Yes the government often oversteps its bounds, but we depend on it to bring order to chaos. Too much is a bad thing but we do require some of it in order to function as a society. Im thankful we have an elected government as well. Representation of, for, and by the people. Our government has lots of problems, perhaps the worst of is that is too big, but it is a government we have a part in. If we dont like it, we can work and vote in order to affect change, which is something a lot of people in the world dont have. I for one am grateful that we live under such a system.
