30 to go for the CTA 2400-series. In revenue service since 1976, these trains are the oldest L cars currently operating on the Orange Line (Midway-Loop) in limited capacity. The work motor-equipped units, (cars 2401-2424, which have the reflective candy-stripped panels) will be retained for work duty for the foreseeable future and rumor has it they might be painted in a full body yellow scheme and renumber as S-series work cars (which occurred with work motor 4000 & 6000-series railcars). Now, if according to schedule, the 2400-series will not be checked for inspection as of this Wednesday (October 1st, 2014), officially signally 38 Years of continuous revenue service. Stay Tuned for Details as some sources are saying the series will retire by the week of September 28th (on Wednesday October 1st) or by the End of December. But, given either way, the 2400-series will retire in 2014.
