302 High: Alexander E. Johnston, president of the Keokuk Savings Bank built this house. Edward Knox Johnstone, president of the Keokuk Savings Bank & Trust Co. and his sister, Mrs. John R. Irwin grew up in this house. Dr. Henry Arthur Gray, leading Keokuk surgeon, bought the place in early 1920s. His wife, Carmylite, met a tragic death that year, when cleaning fluid she was using in the tower caught fire. Judge W. Logan Huiskamp bought the property in 1949 and sold it to Albert R. Oliver a year or so later. Information from Tales of early Keokuk Homes by Raymond E. Garrison
