31.1 Dec So we finally got Eva’s midline removed and the Hickman Port central line re installed, 2 hours late because of an emergency but Eva did really well. She is sleeping well right now but in the morning she will be happy to have it back. We finally had the meeting with Eva’s doctors this evening, when they ask to speak to you without Eva and you go in the conference room and a member of the PAC team and social worker is waiting for you you know it’s not going to be good. So as we thought there wasn’t much fluid to sample but what they could test came back at 8% blasts. When they test the bone marrow they look to see whether the cells look mature (like normal blood cells) or immature (lacking features of normal blood cells). The most immature cells are called myeloblasts (blasts for short). The first test in Aug came back with 90% blasts so 8% is really good but not remission. In order to be in remission and move on to bone marrow transplant (BMT) she needs to be below 5%. They want to do another bone marrow aspiration in about 2 weeks and they feel they will get better results, but along with more cells to examine also comes a very good chance for a higher percentage of blasts. So what that means is another round of chemo. Yeah not what Eva wanted to hear and she took it pretty hard. Eva has been here 5 weeks today so possibly 2 more weeks and if we are lucky a couple days home then another round which depending on the treatment will last probably 6 to 8 weeks then if she is in remission we will go straight into BMT. They are consulting several doctors and other hospitals to include the Mayo Clinic and St Jude’s hospital searching for the right treatment for Eva. We are so hopeful the treatment they select with allow us a chance to move on. So it’s the end of the year and sorry to say I can’t wait for it to end, by far this is the worst year I have ever had. That being said we are so great full to all of you who have been with us during this journey and we will lean on you even more this coming year. We hope you all have a great New Year.
