31 DAYS OF POETRY WITH Enigmatic Olumide Bisiriyu - DAY 23 - NO MATTER THE TIDE, CHANGE THE WORLD - by Kemjy Xtien If I had told you That tomorrow Was the beginning of your end, And you got to know The sound code Your destiny prescribes, And also knew That all life takes Is your breath; first and last, And even experienced A filtration Of your neighbours future; If I had warned you That yesterday Was the sister of grief, And you stumbled upon Your secret: Being related to happiness, And you awoke Realising that Our lives owe each other, Accepting our diversity Would you change the world Despite ills you see? Okeke Akudo Nkemjika Christien started writing between the ages 4 and 6. She started off with short stories, then essays and now poetry. She has been to the Fidelity Bank Creative Writing Lagos and Garden City Literary Festival Port Harcourt workshops in July and October 2012 respectively; the Ebedi International Creative Writers Residency Programme in Iseyin, Oyo State in 2014. Her poems have been aired in some local radio stations, published in local newspapers and more than 12 international and national poetry anthologies. In 2013, her poem, Addictions Affliction, which was translated as a movie flick, was nominated for an award at the Eko International Film Festival in Lagos State. She is inspired by God and nature.
