31 Nights I: Escape From Tomorrow (Were starting with this flick on the request of Gena Verse) Do you know how much depends on this? We had to shut down the Buzz Lightyear! Sometimes, the story behind a movie is very nearly more interesting than the movie itself. Such is the case with Escape From Tomorrow, a film directed stealthily on cellphones and shot on illicit location at both of Walt Disneys American plastic paradises. If this were some indie tear-jerker, than might be the end of the story and peoples attention span for the flick. What the audience is actually given is one mans downward spiral from domestic bristly-bliss into cutely creepy madness. Who are these underage French ingenues? Whats up with the sinister and saccharine man packing a motorized chair and an atrocious Suth-Un accent? And the mysterious man lurking beneath Epcot? Once the movie is set up and you wander through the nightmare imagery, youre left with a story that leaves itself to you to discern and rationalize. Ive always enjoyed such cinematic moments as they reveal more about a persons mindset than a thousand personality quizzes. While I harbor doubts that a insanely product-protective Disney would just leave the filmmakers in peace, the results are intriguing if not entirely satisfying. if you enjoy the early works of David Lynch, David Cronenberg, or Terry Gilliam, you may want to spend sometime in this bizarre black-and-white playground. If you require a story be completely laid out and thoroughly explained, then stay far away!
