343 FDNY firefighters died at the World Trade Center in New York - TopicsExpress

343 FDNY firefighters died at the World Trade Center in New York City on 09/11/2001. It was the greatest single loss of life the fire service has ever experienced. The heroic response from the brave men and women of the FDNY that day will forever live on in the memory of those who remember. The charge of making sure people always remember the sacrifice that was made is especially important to Rowlett Parks Division Manager, Keith Flournoy. This morning Mr. Flournoy coordinated a memorial effort today at all four Rowlett Fire stations. Each station received a memorial with flowers planted in the arrangement of the number “343”. Each arrangement contained approximately 120 daffodils and 25 pansies. The memorials are situated in the front of each of the fire station in order for the public to be able to clearly view and appreciate them. Mr. Flournoy had coordinated a similar memorial in Detroit in his previous employment. Mr. Flournoy hopes to start a new tradition with the memorial project and would like to see each site eventually contain over 50,000 bulbs. The event was made possible through the support and participation of the Keep Rowlett Beautiful organization as well as the Crimson Knights, a local motorcycle club in Rowlett. “This is a great way to honor our brothers that died on 9/11/01 and an awesome reminder to our first responders that our citizens haven’t forgotten either”, said Fire Chief Neil Howard.
