3D projectors - Review of the Mitsubishi HC7800D 3D DLP Projector Prices of high quality 3D projectors keeps going down, so we decided to review the Mitsubishi projector. From the outside, the HC7800D is small and light compared to its competitors, which is good as these products are mostly ceiling mounted. From a technical point of view, this projector comes with too many great features to list, but here are a few that we liked. First, its vertical offset is greater than most, which means that you can place it well above the top of the screen and still center the image without distortion. The projector allows a little light leakage from the exhaust vent, but not enough to be distracting; and fan noise was never an issue. There are eight picture modes, including three AV Memory modes and two ISF modes, as well as seven gamma settings. The BrilliantColor feature (trademarked by Texas Instruments) makes the image very crisp. There’s also a noise reduction control, a CTI control to correct smeared color boundaries, settings for HDMI Input level, black level setup, color space, and a full color-management system that offers gain, saturation, and hue controls for red, green, blue, yellow, magenta, and cyan. As a result, in 2D, the Mitsubishi’s picture looked stunning. There was no visible clipping of the brilliant whites. The color was breathtaking, and the resolution was perfect. It handled the dark scenes extremely well, and did the colors and details as well as more expensive projectors. The picture was always very sharp and detailed – this projector just knocked us out. In 3D, the Mitsubishi’s picture is much darker. That said, after adjusting the settings, the projector performed extremely well, with crisp images, good colours (though a little less than in 2D), great depth, and deep, rich blacks with good shadow details.
