3rd seed Maria Sharapova has crashed out of the Western and Southern Open following her 2-6, 7-6(7/5), 6-3 defeat to Sloane Stephens. The 26 year old, who has just started working with 8 time Grand Slam champion winner Jimmy Connors as her new coach, produced over 60 unforced errors in the encounter with the world number 17. Sharapova has struggled with injuries in the past few months but was nowhere near her best in Cincinnati and will have plenty to work on between now the start of the US Open, which gets underway on 24th August. The Russian star admitted she was disappointed with her her performance against Stephens and will have work on getting back to the form that will allow her to compete in New York.
