4:01 am Farm Report The rain is falling hard outside. Gusts of wind against the house would wake me from time to time during the night. Once in a while I thought I could hear one of the cows calling. I wondered if the cows and the horses sorted things out during the night. Cows can rest standing up, but really they need to lie down. I see the horses recline once in a while. Bailey loves to sunbathe. Ive seen her more than a few times catching a few rays. But mostly, the horses stand up to rest. In my mind, I imagine every horse having a cow for company. It works for now. In a month or two, depending on the grass, everyone will come together once again. I wonder how the horses will feel when they see how many cows there are... Really, Ive been impressed with how well everyone is getting along. Martha and Orrie are managing the young stock and keeping the area safe from large predators. I know Orrie wishes there was a way to create a no fly zone for birds out there. Hes getting run ragged by the various crows, blue birds, turkeys and wrens. I have no idea where his focus on birds comes from, but it is certainly unusual and very funny to watch. I cant imagine the calves realize he is protecting them from the bird world. Odd little donkey... For now, our team of horses and donkeys has all things bovine under control. Its wonderful to watch them all get along so well. But I really want to know who slept where last night. I have a sneaking suspicion that Frankie stayed with King. Yesterday, I looked for any tell tale shavings in her forelock or tail, but she had already groomed herself. No clues there. This morning, I am determined to be very quiet and come into the barn from a different door. Hopefully, I wont set off the donkey alarm and get everyone running. Bobby once suggested I get one of those live feed cameras, so I can stop guessing whats happening in the barn. Thats a great idea, but Id miss out on all the fun of surprising Frankie and King. And that picture will be worth a thousand words...I think. Anyway, I have to get going before its light and before the rain stops. I need the cover of darkness and the noise of the rain to pull this off... Yes, Erica. Ill keep you in the loop. Promise. Im off to the barn. Ill be back later.
