4.5 million men, women and children were still working as bonded labourers in these kilns. The plight of labourers in brick kilns??? Are we living in 21st centruy Dont be surprised. I was seeing a documentary on ndtv.in Itho ki Bediya??? This business still has a large number of Bonded Labours. In Andhra Pradesh itself there are around 200 such kilns.Families & families of the labourers are hired from orissa alone ( ~ 3 L ) .Most of those bonded labourers are made to work for 16 to 18 Hours in unhygenic conditions exposed to harsh environment of dust, high temperature and are paid Rs200 to Rs300 and lesser though in books it is registered as 750 /day. In 1988, the Supreme Court had declared all bonded labourers free.Following the decision, the government carried out legislation in 1992 and passed the Bonded Labour Abolition Act, and the rules of the abolition act were framed in 1995. However, even though the law is in place, it has not been implemented to date and almost 4.5 million bonded labourers today are still deprived of their basic rights. “Their lives can be made much better if their rights are ensured. These include the right to education for their children, access to welfare schemes, and marriage, death and disability grants to mention a few benefits which bonded labourers are denied today. Small kids from 6 to 8 years are forced kneading muddy dough to make bricks.Transporting them within and outside kilns and..... They do not have schools, toilets, healthcare centre,aanganwadi,food,clothes..... Most of the workers suffer from skin infection, tuberculosis, fever, burns working in kilns,cancer..... I do not know when law will be implemented but on grounds of Humanity can we the childrens of Pt Shriram Sharma DIYA and All World Gayatri Pariwar Paarijans identify such kilns and do our share by providing them everything we can.A touch of warmth and compassion ?????.Pls send ur suggestions to gpmumbai@gmail
