4 years ago..when I started the renovations for ARoma. .I hired a contractor ..his name is Sidu Edin from Pitas..he claimed to be a genuine contractor..I paid him up front rm20k cash with my own money and not borrowed. 1st few days he knocked down many walls.. pull the ceilings..that went on for 5 days only.then he went missing for 2 days saying another project at some place to check..I was behind schedule and needed him to finish the job..he asked for another rm20k promising hed do it all according to my own designs n layouts within 10 days. .(I was also my own architect n engineer..heheh) passed him the other rm20k and he fled the next day never to be seen anymore! !...so what I did? I do it my self ..I pile up bricks..mix cement..paitung walls..made 2 toilets. .made a fire place..made a sink out of bricks.. did the pipings..did many capertry works..paintings..tilings...but left the old ceilings still intact ..I only had the exhaust unit installed after 9months of operation that cost me another rm10k..I spent another rm15k for materials and workers pay..then another total of rm40 borrowed from my family members which many were against my idea to go into any business. .. I had plastic plates and soft metal forks n spoons for 3 months..and only had 4 staffs including me to run the place..I had no advice given to me to start a business/restaurant. only condemnations. No tips at all.. no advisors. .no experienced leader in this industry to drop a word or two ..no guide..no mentor. . No marketing advices..no promotional guide. I too had no advertising knowledge.. I had to beat all odds by myself. Im quarter Chinese blood and many Chinese people said im not 100% chinese and I will not make it till end of year.and my kadazandusun people said im not a Chinese to start any business ..either I was conned into opening or saving another business, that was in the past long forgotten...I had no knowledge at all about what happened in the past (but now i do) because I was away overseas for a total of 14 years oso..the 1st day I arrived Malaysia from Italy immediately i started plannings for menu and designs and the renovations. .I had to learn the hard way..if an opportunity comes..take it and dont expect any help in return. .do it yourself and learn from it the hard way how others did it...when u fall, get back up and dont give up..believe in yourself and you can do all things..dream!! And be smarter over the time...for a year plus I too never owned a car..I even hiked a bus to Damai from kk to get fish.. I guess my experience from 1996 till 2010 working for people thought me alot about life.. From Jan 2011-Jan 2015 I learnt about myself n PEOPLE more.. may Allah bless evryone who seek success but 1st change ur mindset..jangan malas !. Cheers. . Buon anno 2015!! . . Im Aaron M.
