40 Days of Lenten Devotions: Wednesday, Week 6 (4/16) — Holy Week Revelations Are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss? Luke 22:48 This quote from Jesus is dripping with irony. Though a kiss is supposed to represent intimate affection and a close connection between two people, Judas used a kiss as a sinister signal to the soldiers to arrest Jesus. Our affections toward God and one another can be just as sinister. Its called kissing off—abandoning those we love and those who love us so we can pursue our own desires. On the surface, we may act as though we are loving and caring, but our real intent may simply be to satisfy ourselves. The only way out of this selfish pattern is to stand face-to-face with our loved ones and our Savior and say we are sorry. Let confession and compassion be ever on my lips. Amen.
