40 MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS NEEDED. If you have an unused musical instrument collecting dust around your house, consider donating it Rochester Education Foundation and help reach its goal of 1,000 instruments. Started in 2005, “Spring For Music” was a program that REF initiated to get more instruments into the hands of Rochester City School District students. Over the years, generous donations have resulted in 960 instruments getting an encore in the hands of aspiring musicians. All conventional band and orchestra instruments are accepted -- except for pianos and organs -- in addition to musical stands, elementary instruction booklets and small musical materials, such as violin strings. To donate an instrument, drop it off during the month of June at Parkleigh (corner of Park Avenue and Goodman Street), or bring it to the REF booth on Gibbs Street during the Jazz Festival (June 21-29).
