40 years ago, on this day, at about this time, I was baptized into the Body of Christ. It was in the baptistry at Ambassador College in Big Sandy. God has been good these 40 years--I have learned, worked, served, struggled and enjoyed life more than I even thought possible. I wish to thank my wife, children, other family, friends, teachers, fellow-believers and everyone else who have been a blessing and encouragement to me all these years. Life is still exciting and I am looking forward to whatever God has for me in the future. Things change. 40 years ago I did not invite any friends to my baptism because I was still so vain to have trouble with the idea of my friends viewing me as a sinner in need of a savior. Even though they probably all knew it, anyway, I still wanted to be perceived as someone who had it all together. Today, I realize that I started a ministry to the homeless without the necessary knowledge, staff or financial resources, and Im willing to admit that and accept help from wherever it comes.
