40th anniversary programme of DU Public Administration Dept begins The two-day long 40 years celebration of Public Administration Department of Dhaka University (DU) started at the TSC (Teachers Students Centre) yesterday (Friday) amid colourful programmes. The department chalked out different programmes including rally, cutting of cake, orientation, prize giving ceremony, academic seminar and fascinating cultural festival to mark the celebration. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the programme by cutting a cake at TSC at about 9am. The vice-chancellor also participated at a colourful rally, which paraded almost all the important roads of the university. AAMS Arefin Siddique in his inaugural speech said, "The founder teachers of the department proposed to Banglabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to open a new department. The Father of the Nation agreed because it was logical in a war torn country, needing a new administrative structure. He inspired the teachers and gave an approval to open the department. Now we recall and thank him." The VC also thanked all the teachers and the students of the department for arranging an exceptional celebration. Public Administration Department Chairman Professor Mosleh Uddin Ahmed presided over the function while DU Pro-VC (education) Professor Nasrin Ahmad and Dean of Social Sciences Faculty Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed addressed as special guests. Public Administration Department Alumni Association President Md Abul Kalam Azad and General Secretary Professor Akhter Hossain, Additional Secretary of Finance Department of the government Jalal Ahmad, SM Farid Uddin and General Manager of The New Nation Syed Altaf Hossain were present, among others. Several hundred students came to the university in the morning. They attended all the programmes of the department, shared their university experiences with one another. Wazed Chowdhury Imrul, a student of 22nd batch, told The New Nation, "I am so happy to attend the programme. I saw all of my friends here after a long time and shared reminiscence of our university life. It is a memorable day of my life." Farzana Naz Shampa said, "I passed part of my valuable days in the university. All of my friends were very amicable. I am very glad now to meet my them and my teachers. I want to give my heartiest thank to my teachers for giving us such surprise." Orientation of 1st year, farewell, remembrance, seminar and fascinating cultural festival will be held today (Saturday).
