41)-‘Island Tourism Festival’ – 2015 inaugurated by the Chief Secretary, as Chief Guest Dr Anand Prakash IAS at ITF Ground. This year, the festival will be held upto Jan 15, 2015. The main venue will entertain the people with lots of cultural programme. Healthy baby show, flower show and dog show competitions will be an added attraction at ITF ground part from delicious food courts, fund games etc. The performance of the cultural troupes from mainland (EZCC/SZCC) will help the Islanders renew their cultural ties with mainland India. The cultural troupes from mainland as well as local will also perform in outer Islands in North & Middle Andaman as well as in Nicobar groups of Islands apart from South Andaman. This year, the ‘Carnic’ festival will be organized from Jan 7 to 11, 2015 at Car Nicobar during the ITF. The Tourism Department is also arranging programmes of celebrity artistes in which noted playback singers of TV fame will perform. The playback singer Ms. Usha Mangeshkar with her team will perform on Jan 10 while the dance programme of TV fame artist Ankan Sen will be on Jan 11 at Netaji Stadium. A band of artistes from mainland (Ms. Amika Shaail& Feriyad Band) will also perform at Campbell Bay, Kamorta, Car Nicobar, Hutbay, Rangat, Mayabunder, Diglipur, Wimberlygunj and Wandoor apart from ITF ground. Dr. Kamala Shankar, a renowned exponent of Indian Classical Hawaiian Guitar will enthrall the audience at the Island Tourism Festival on January 12, 2015. She is known for her tremendous control and versatility along with depth on her instrument. She has an exceptional and natural ability to play the ‘Gayaki Ang’ style. Dr. Kamala is a prodigy of Indian Music and achieved the record of first lady Guitar Artist. Dr. Kamala Shankar has been awarded with the most prestigious “Rashtriya Kumar Gandharva Samman 2009-10” by the Govt. of Madhya Pradesh. She has modified the Guitar and thus ‘Shankar Guitar’ came into existence in the year 2001. The festival acts as powerful binding force cutting across the barriers of casts, colour and religion. It provides a common platform where one and all irrespective of colour, caste and religious distraction participate with equal dedication and gaiety promoting and strengthening the spirit of brotherhood.
