411 on the Snout Count app! One weird thing Ive done with it: take a picture of my computer screen with a picture of a dog on it, and send THAT to a national rescue group! Heres the scoop: 1. What does this app do? Its this simple: take a picture of a dog (or select an existing picture on your phone) and then tap Find Breed. Your app will immediately access our database, update its list, and present you with a list of rescues by either breed or state. Select a rescue from the list. The app automatically fills in the TO field on an email form, gives you some space to make comments, and attaches the picture. It makes it easier to get pictures and info on dogs in need of rescuing to people who can do something about it. 2. How often is it updated? I have a very precise answer for that: pretty often. Our plan is to validate all entries at least monthly. New rescues are added, especially to the coonhound and bully breed lists, frequently. 3. Why do I need this? Cant I just use petfinder? Sure you can! Petfinder is our idol. Theyve changed the way all of us do rescue. Keep in mind, though, that the petfinder database is not curated. In other words, all they do is check to see if youve logged in at least once a month. They dont actively check emails, point of contacts, all that. We do and were constantly adding new rescue groups. While we cant promise that every rescue we list is in business, we do actively curate our database to make sure email addresses and other contact info is good. 4. Where do you get your information from? Like most people, from the web. Our national breed rescue list is taken from information submitted to and available to the public at akc.org. You can go there any time you like and see who the designated national rescue contact is for a particular breed. We make it a little easier by integrating your camera and email systems with our database, but there are all sorts of ways to get this info.
