#4176: I love this page dearly but God Damn if it doesnt showcase just how many people at NYU are mentally ill. Honestly I think NYU should start giving freshmen mandatory mental health visits with a counselor. Give the visits a catchy name, and give the freshmen some snacks when they leave, but make sure RAs get those kids in the health center. I think a lot of people really want to talk to someone, but dont trust their RAs with sensitive topics as much as a licensed professional who is legally obligated to keep their secrets, and I think it would be a really positive experience for almost everyone who goes. And it would go so, so far in removing the stigma of seeing a therapist, in getting over the inertia of doing nothing, and getting people used to actually using the health services to help themselves. And if NYU isnt doing it because they cant afford enough psychiatrists, then 2031 deserves to be torn down and sold for scrap metal until mental wellness is sufficiently financed. Protecting students is far more important than NYUs global expansion plans. Not one more cent should be spent on new penthouses for celebrity faculty until the NYU administration puts its money where its mouth is and starts treating students as more than walking cash cows to be forcibly kept alive until they are milked dry.
