42 crore allotted for regular power supply in Kalwa Thane: Criticized for regular load shedding in Kalwa and its periphery, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has taken up modernization and upgradation in the existing power supply mechanism. It has allocated Rs 42 crore in the next two years apart from its ongoing strengthening work pegged at Rs 19 crore. The power authority has promised to supply uninterrupted electricity in the next few months once two 630KVA capacity transformers are installed, one each at Bhaskar Nagar and Vaghoba Nagar, where the population has risen substantially over the years, causing shortfall in the supply network. Local MLA Jitendra Awhad has performed the stone laying ceremony for the installation of two sophisticated high-speed power transformers recently. We will commence work on erecting both the transformers soon. To strengthen the existing set up we have spent over Rs 19 crore in the last five years for augmentation. Besides, Rs 42 crore has been allocated to modernize the system in the next two years in Kalwa, said an official from MSEDCL. The modernization and upgradation project includes setting up of 22/11KV and 10MVA capacity sub-station at Kharegaon to regulate the supply system. Moreover, a switching station is also being planned near Kharegaon police chowky in the next two-year slot.
