47thFunFact: Did you know the city of Cypress got its name from a local school District? Ranging in age from 6 to 19, there were 23 students enrolled when the Cypress School District opened its doors in 1895. On a salary of $60 per month, Miss Margaret Daisy Landell taught grades one through eight and was the first teacher the school hired. The school itself was named after the Cypress trees that were planted around the schoolyard for a windbreak and the 47th District city later adopted this name for their community. Interestingly enough, today the only year round school in the city of Cypress, Margaret Landell Elementary School, is named after Miss. Margaret Landell. #47thFunFact #Cypress
