4A-GEs are awesome engines, but getting the idle right is often a headache. In these 3 videos I show how to diagnose and solve perhaps the most common source of a high idle: a stuck ISCV (Idle Speed Control Valve). The valve is sort of a thermostat that controls a choke, and that closes as the engine coolant temperature rises. With time and lack of maintenance, rust can accumulate in the coolant passages and cause it to stick! It is very easy to clean up, you can do it at home using a bit of degreaser, a toothbrush, some hot water and compressed air.
