4th Region All A Tournament Preview The Favorite Monroe County (17-2) - The Falcons enter this All A tournament as the #1 ranked team in the 4th Region. Theyre the only team left undefeated in region play, and have won 6 straight and 10 of 11 entering their semifinal game on Thursday. Momentum-wise, they almost feel like an overwhelming favorite. Monroe is led by Dillon Geralds, one of the best scorers in the entire region. He has averaged nearly 18 points per game over 17 games, and can play in the post or outside. He is complemented by Lincoln Arnett, Gibril Summers, and John Geralds, all of which average between 9.2-10.0 points per game. The Falcons are the only team to knock off Warren Central in the region, and the only thing that prevents them from being locks are a pair of games with much closer than expected scores. One of those was against.... The Contender Clinton County (13-6) - Last year it was the Bulldogs that were the favorites, but took a stunning loss to Monroe County in their opening game and watched as the Falcons went on to get blown out by eventual champion Glasgow. It was an unexpected turn that did not derail the year by any means, as the Bulldogs would lose only twice the rest of the year. Clinton County narrowly fell in a home game to Monroe County way back on December 9th, falling 60-58. Only Allen County-Scottsvilles 64-63 decision has been closer in 4th Region play against Monroe County. The Bulldogs will need a bigger game this time from Keifer Dalton, the preseason player of the year for the region and the recently crowned all-time leading scorer at Clinton County. He had just 13 in the first game, while it was senior guard Lance Claywell that did more of the heavy lifting with 21 points. The Bulldogs trailed the entire game and by as much as 12 points the first time around, crawling back into things late but failing to tie the game when they went to the line for two free throws late. Clinton County should enter on a high spot of momentum after dropping Russell County at home 48-44 to even their season series. They have won four straight. The Dark Horse There isnt one. No slight to the other teams, but none of them is on the level of either of the two above. With Russellville dropping out this year, the other four teams have combined for seven wins on the year, and three of those came in games against the other teams. Todd County Central enters having lost five straight and will be fed to Clinton County right off the bat. Glasgow has lost five straight on their own and has taken a significant step back from last years All A region title, going 1-15 against teams from the state of Kentucky. Host school Cumberland County is winless while Metcalfe Countys only two wins came in district play against Cumberland County. If they manage to upset either of the above teams it will be the type of upset that is talked about for years to come.
