5/7/2014. Jay Shri Krishna Friends, if you analyze the craziness of persons in things, you will come to know that, in most of the cases, it reflects person’s innate desire for emancipation though unknowingly. But we are not paying attention to it minutely. As a general rule it applies to almost all things of craziness. Today we may take up intoxicants. We know that people are very crazy for intoxicants. Though they adversely affect man’s social, economical and health conditions, addicted people can’t leave them. This is social taboo, and people must strive hard to shun the wine or any other intoxicants. I categorically denounce any kind of intoxicants. Saying this let us proceed in understanding the phenomenon of insanity under intoxicants. Why people take intoxicants? They may be taking them to shun the ego. How, let us elaborate. In Adhyatm ego is regarded as a very prominent enemy of the Sadhak. Shruti Says: या तदभिमानं कारयति सा अविद्या । (सवॅसारोपनिषद ) (yaa tadbhimanam karyati saa Avidya- Sarvasaropanishad) That which begets ego is Avidya, the illusion. So accordingly illusion leads to ego and the illusion is the root cause of every enigma, smaller or larger, and is an obstacle in achieving emancipation. Intrinsically everybody knows the bad effects of ego. So his inner desire is to shun it. But as it is not that easy to shun ego, the inner desire leads person to intoxication. It is a sense of distinctiveness of the person, essentially an ego, that prevents person from opening up before society. When one is under the effect of intoxication, that sense of distinctiveness, essentially an ego, withers away and person feels at ease in opening up before you. I had seen many persons, seemingly very strong and very tight lipped, but when under intoxication, they weep and cry like a child. They tell their every secret which ordinarily ego will not allow them during sane time. During drunken state their ego temporarily withers away. Actually ego melts away permanently only when we totally surrender to God. But to totally surrender to God is very costly; you have to give away yourself. So everybody can’t afford the surrendering to God, so they found out their substitutes for it. You see every drunker takes wine as per his affordability. Some may take country wine, some foreign liquor. Same way very affording person can get dipped into the intoxication of God himself. There is no greater and costly intoxicant than Bhakti. But it requires great courage to pay the heavy cost, as shown by Mirabai, Kabir and Baba Farid. We see that many people are taking up social-service activities; it is also an effort to dilute the ego. Some social reformers go to slum areas to take up cleanliness drive. Some go to leprosy hospitals to serve the lepers. Some take up upliftment of down trodden castes. Some distribute fruits and medicines to poor patients. Some even take up service of animals, birds and mammals. Some even come out in processions chanting Prabhu names. If you minutely analyze, you will come to know that, in reality, these are attempts to dilute their ego, but in the most cases people concerned are not aware of this fact. But these are temporary and partial mediums of shunning the ego. And some time even ego become more powerful in them. But I want to emphasize that persons are subtly trying to dilute their ego through these mediums. Why they do this? Because intrinsically they know that, there is no emancipation without shunning the ego totally. Shunning the ego totally means losing your identity. And as they can’t afford losing their identity which is prerequisite for merging in God, they resort to temporary and token means, of losing their ego for self flattery, one among them is intoxicant. But when we surrender our total ego to Lord Krishna, we become identity less presence without personality. We lose all distinctiveness and separateness. We become one with entire existence. The emptiness dawns on us making way for Lord Krishna to usher in. Then our body doesn’t remain our body. It becomes dwelling house of God. Thus man’s craziness in activities is generally inadvertent effort on the part of persons in the direction of emancipation. Let us don’t resort to temporary shunning of ego, but permanently and totally surrender our ego to Lord Krishna to merge with Him. May God bless you.
