5/8/14: There’s something impossible about the color of the shallows in the Caribbean. The sea looks as if it’s illuminated from below, and the jewel-brilliant aquamarine almost hurts my eyes, even as I can’t get enough of it! …. The sea around the islands is God’s living stained-glass window. Depending on the topography below the water, the colors are sharply outlined and contrasted. A beam of green brilliance is framed by streaks of purple that fade to royal blue. I don’t have words to describe it. I’ve asked God to design the floor in my mansion with those colors. You’re all welcome to visit me there! …. In Revelation 21, we’re given a glimpse into the New Jerusalem that will descend out of Heaven. Here’s what John saw: …. “The City shimmered like a precious gem, light-filled, pulsing light.” (v.12) …. “The wall was jasper, the color of Glory, and the City was pure gold, translucent as glass. The foundations of the City walls were garnished with every precious gem imaginable: the first foundation jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate a single pearl. The main street of the City was pure gold, translucent as glass.” (v.18-22) …. I’d like to see the oysters that made THOSE pearls! …. Here’s the kicker: “Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life will get in.” (v.27) The Book of Life is mentioned in the Old Testament as well as the New. (Psalm 69:28 NIV) (Daniel 12:1-2 The Message) …. I believe the brilliance of Caribbean waters is a mere shadow of the life to come. When we get there, our eyes will be able to handle it, because the Light of God will illuminate every part of our hearts and spirits.
