In 2008, a study came out in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition that looked at the effects of the Paleo Diet on healthy volunteers. 14 healthy students in medical school (9 female, 5 male) went on the Paleo Diet for three weeks in a study without a control group. On average, the students lost five pounds, had their BMI (body mass index) drop by 0.8 and lost 0.6 inches of waist size. Also, their systolic blood pressure went down by an average of 3 mmHg. Obviously, your initial weight loss will vary with regard to how closely you follow the diet, how much you weigh at the beginning of the diet, and the operation of your own metabolism.
