(5 mins) There was a CSG conference for proponents of the industry - TopicsExpress

(5 mins) There was a CSG conference for proponents of the industry held at Parliament House in Canberra on Tuesday night (26 August 2014). It was bad - industry have managed to get some major players onside. One of them was now Shadow Minister for Resources and Energy, the ALPs Gary Gray, whos long been a fan of CSG, and was seen discussing it with Greg Hunt, supposedly now Federal Minister FOR the Environment as far back as the opening of the first Abbott Government on 12 November 2013 (there are a few photos of this throughout the video). In this video he talks to ABCs political reporter Kerrin Binnie about the meeting. With a mouthpiece like Gary Gray - OPPOSITION shadow minister talking so much in favour of CSG, who needs enemies? With both sides of Federal government in favour of the industry, it means campaigners like us are really pushing it uphill to get the message across, and a showing of thousands of people as we saw at Bentley seems to be the only thing governments listen to. Gray is arguing that previously there were cowboys, but theyve all gone, and gas is extracted from areas of the geology that are well precisely known and well understood. Hes pushing the industry line that the monitoring and treatment of frackwater are subject to the most stringent of controls and environmental regulation, which is of course pure rubbish. He refers to a farmer from the Surat Basin who says his father used to set fire to his well in the 1950s, as CSG is a naturally occurring phenomenon. I think was merely to remove the impact of those shots showing water catching fire - not exactly a good sign, surely. Gray claims he is a supporter of better regulation for the industry, not more, and is confident that the industry is safe. Obviously APPEA has gotten at him with either threats or favours. One of the long-established players in the game, Santos, for instance, has been fined for multiple spills, and contamination of an area up at Bibblewindi with radioactivity. So much for stringent regulation and newcomer cowboys! Please SHARE! And dont forget to like us here at facebook/GIACSG
