50 years ago today I was 9 in the 4th grade at St. Edwards School in Brockton. Sister Eugene Maria received a note from the office , walked to the back of the class opened the art closet and we could hear her weeping. An announcement came over the intercom that the President had been shot and school was being dismissed as soon as the busses could get to the school. The level of sadness and the higher level of quiet was deafening. People everywhere were crying, sad, looking lost. School was out for the week, things were closed and it was as if the world stood still. Hard to comprehend when youre nine. The world truly went off it axis that day. I remember sitting with my mom morning, noon and night watchiing endless broadcasts on TV. Watching the funeral and all that transpired after. I like countless others was so moved by little John Johns salute and how bravely Jackie conducted herself. One of those moments in history that time stood still, you remember everything, the clothes you were wearing, the sounds, the smells, the people you were with. Where were you ?
