51 years ago today I was a young kid sitting in a class at Cherry Point NAS Marine Corps base when the intercom came on and asked the teachers to report to the principals office. At 10 years old, we really didnt think about it too much, the teacher came back to the classroom stifling tears and told us the President had been shot. Being young and full of ourselves, there was a a nervous energy about what we had just heard...some afraid...some giggles, for fear of not knowing how to comprehend this kind of news (not out out of disrespect, but naivete). We were told we would be going home and the busses would be waiting for us out side. I got home and my mother was was crying her heart out and with three boys she could not handle the questions and distractions that kids can often bring and asked us to sit outside and put the transistor radio in the window that we could hear the updating news. It was the first time I had ever heard the Beatles.....I will never forget that day.
