52. THE LIGHT OF GOD 1 John 1:5-7 “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” Jesus said: “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12). As you are reading this the world is getting darker and darker because they do not know the light which comes from God and is God. It is amazing to me when I read the Old Testament account of creation, that light is one of the very first things that is created. We read: “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day” (Genesis 1:3-5). All God had to do was to speak and light was created. The world had not been fully formed and yet God created light. Notice that light was created before the sun and moon, the greater light and the lesser light. Light was created on the first day and the light in the heaven was not created until the beginning of the fourth day (vs. 14). The light which is from the sun (day time light) and moon (night time light; reflected light from the sun) is not the light which God created at the very beginning of creation week. Jesus is Light and if we follow Him, we walk in His Light. The Hebrew word used is “owr” (ore); illumination or (concrete) luminary (in every sense, including lightning, happiness, etc.). The Greek word in the New Testament in the book of John is the word: “phos”(foce); from an obsolete phao (to shine or make manifest, especially by rays. In both words we have the sense of having our paths lighted and when we walk in His Light or God’s Light, we cannot be seen as walking in darkness at all. Our path will be lighted and we will not lose our way. It is when we turn away from the Light that we start walking in darkness again. Darkness is simply speaking about the world and its system. When we walk in the path which God sets before us we will not fail, but when we start walking our own path then we cannot help but fail. In heaven there will not be the sun to see our way but rather Jesus will be the light found there. There will be no need for created light at all. What a glorious day that will be when we will no longer need any light to see anything because Jesus will shine so brightly that His Light will penetrate all darkness because there is no darkness in heaven. Both the Hebrew word “owr” and the Greek word “phos” have the same basic definition, they both speak of illumination. I can not imagine the darkness that will prevail throughout hell, even though there are flames, they do not give off light but rather burn without giving off light. The Bible speaks of this type of darkness with a fire that burns without light. My mind has a hard time visualizing it because when one thinks of fire we think naturally of the light it provides. Hell has no light what so ever and yet the flames of hell will burn for all eternity. The Lake of Fire gives off no light whatsoever and yet it burns and is the place which all those who reject Jesus, the only true Light, will end up after the thousand year reign of Christ on this earth. The start of this thousand year reign will not happen until after the seven year tribulation period which is broken down to have two three and a half sets of time. The first three and a half years will be when the Antichrist and the false prophet will reign on earth and will start when the Antichrist makes a treaty with Israel, which he will break during the last three and a half years. Those three and a half years will be the worst years that this world has ever seen. As the Antichrist rules, God is judging mankind. Those who take the mark of the Beast or Antichrist on their foreheads or on the back of their hand will be in judgment from God. I would not like to be one of those who are judged by God because that judgment will last for all eternity. Those who reject Jesus will be a part of those who will be cast into the Lake of Fire: along with the Antichrist and the false prophet. Will you be part of the light or will you be a part of the darkness? If we have Jesus in our hearts, which we receive at the instant of our salvation, we will not be a part of the darkness. Those who reject Him outright or even do nothing and are the fence riders, those God will judge and His judgment will be true and just. Are you walking in the Light? Or are you walking in the darkness of this world. Even though we walk in the light which God created, the sun and moon, we walk in darkness if Jesus is not a part of our lives; it is as simple as that.
